- Abstract The basic principles of microprogrammable bit-slice processors, and the advantages and disadvantages of these processors, relative to fixed instruction setprocessors are discussed. Applications of bit-slice processors are illustrated for computers with modifiable features, controllers for specific tasks, fast signal processing, and programmable controllers. The implications of using bit-slice processors are discussed in terms of the skills and tools required.
