- Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate oral and poster presentations in the annual meetings of Turkish Neurosurgical Society (TNS) from 2005 to 2009, and their publication ratios in peer-reviewed international journals. Methods: All oral and poster presentations of the annual meetings of the TNS within a five year period from 2005 to 2009 were evaluated. Publications related to these presentations have been searched in the PubMed search engine. Results: There were a total of 2672 abstracts between 2005 and 2009, presented at annual meetings of the TNS. The number of published articles in peer-reviewed journals was 414 and the overall publication rate was 15.5%. Publication rate of oral presentations (24.6%) were found significantly higher (PO.05) than poster presentations (12.3%). Conclusion: This is the first study evaluating oral and poster presentations in these meetings of TNS from 2005 to 2009 and their publication ratios in peer-reviewed international journals. The publication rate of the TNS meeting abstracts was found to be lower than that of publications ratios of meetings of Congress of Neurological Surgeons (CNS) and American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS). Causes of lower publication ratios need to be determined and improvement of these ratios should be encouraged.
