- Growth factors are biologically active polypeptide
hormones, which have been shown to play a critical
role in the stimulation and regulation of the periodontal
regeneration and repair. They express their action by
binding to specific cell-surface receptors present on
various target cells including osteoblasts, cementoblasts
and periodontal ligament fibroblasts. The purpose of
this review is to discuss the role of PDGF, TGF, FGF,
IGF and EGF and their regulatory mechanisms of
regenerative process in the periodontal tissues based
on currently published studies.
